40 is not the new 30

In my slew of Happy 40th parties I realize that we are all making excuses for the number 40. “40 is the new 30” I read - on several happy birthday cards. Why does 40 have to be the new 30 to make us feel better? 30 was great and now it’s gone and that decade was full of adventure, excitement, good times, tough times and most importantly - knowledge and experience. 

I wouldn’t trade those ten years in for anything - not even Ben & Jerrys double fudge brownie overload. But I don’t want to go back - I want to move forward and see what 40 has to add to further enrich my life. 

So i won’t be signing any cards telling my friends ‘40 is the new 30’. There’s nothing 30 about 40 so we have to embrace it because it’s not going anywhere for the next year.
